INVERNESS, Marin County — October 31, 2026. As winter weather approaches West Marin, residents have an official way to report flooded county roadways, sidewalks and bicycle routes without sending the same concern to the wrong municipality. Marin County’s FixItMarin reporting service explicitly includes unincorporated Inverness in its coverage area.
What can residents report?
On its Flooded Roadway page, updated October 14, 2026, the county lists water pooling on roads, sidewalks and bike lanes, overflow creating traffic hazards and flooding in valley areas. A report should include the location, description and photos when available.
The page offers a direct online reporting link and Android and iPhone app options. Use the county’s own reporting page rather than guessing whether a nearby incorporated city maintains the road.
Where does the county service apply?
Along with Inverness, the official coverage list names other unincorporated communities such as Kentfield, Marin City and Woodacre. For an incident inside an incorporated town such as San Anselmo or Sausalito, the county directs the reporter to that town’s separate service channel. Residents should also remember that highways operated by Caltrans may follow a different maintenance and reporting process.
When should residents call emergency services instead?
A routine road-maintenance report is not an emergency-response request. For immediate threats to life, injuries, submerged vehicles or active rescue needs, use 911. For travel decisions during widespread flooding, consult Marin County’s Public Emergency Portal. Never attempt to cross moving floodwater merely to collect evidence for a report.
The most useful report is accurate and specific; it does not require a resident to approach unsafe water to take a photograph.
